2-3-12 Trenton Update: Legislative action on Thursday
Education Issues were front and center yesterday in Trenton. Senator Ruiz' Tenure and Evaluation bill, S1455 TEACH NJ was released for public review...The Assembly Education Committee heard and voted out several bills in a long afternoon hearing, includind Charter School related bills A1877 Local Vote (required before allowing - or not - a charter school to be established in a local district); A2147 Charter School Accountability and Transparency Act; and A1608 Janet's Law which requires that local schools have defibrillators on site...GSCS testified in favor of all 3 bills. Janet's Law has already passed in the Senate Education committee and is poised for final passage. The Charter school bills have not seen any action in the Senate yet...Stay tuned...
