Education Week--Christie says he's budgeting $1M for college readiness
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie says he is asking the Democrat-led Legislature for $1 million in next year's budget for a program that gives remedial students training to help them go to college.
Christie said Monday at Camden Community College that the College Readiness Now program has grown from a pilot program in 2013 serving 921 students to 1,860 students in 92 high schools in the current school year.
The administration says the program offers remedial classes for college credit to high school students who otherwise would have to pay for them after graduation.
