SUBJECT:       COMMITTEE MEETING - JANUARY 4, 2010

            The Assembly Education Committee will meet on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Committee Room 16, 4th Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, New Jersey.

            The committee will conduct a discussion with invited participants on charter schools, urban education, and strategies to address the needs of low-income students.

The following bills will be considered:

A-757 Conners/Conaway	Provides that the school district of residence for a child in a foster home shall be the present district of residence of the parent or guardian.
A-2547 Lampitt/Wagner (pending referral) S-1263 (2R) Turner (pending referral)	Requires textbook publishers to provide public institutions of higher education with information on price and availability of textbooks.
A-3228 Angelini/O'Scanlon/ Casagrande/Rible	Provides that tuition assistance or additional compensation for graduate degree provided under employment contracts for certain school district administrators may only be provided if degree is conferred by accredited institution.
A-3671 Cryan/Vas/O'Scanlon S-2127 (1R) Codey/Turner/Beck	Requires certain conditions be met in order for school districts to provide their employees with tuition assistance for coursework or additional compensation upon acquisition of academic credits or completion of a degree program.
A-3806 Chiappone/Vainieri Huttle S-1771 (1R) Madden/Vitale	Establishes New Jersey Student Athlete Cardiac Screening Task Force.
A-4248 Wisniewski S-3092 Sweeney/Baroni	Prohibits SDA from restricting the ability of certain firms or persons from competing for contracts in more than one Division of Property Management and Construction classification or prequalification category.
A-4270 Jasey/Scalera/Tucker	Establishes New Jersey Special Education and Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force.
A-4279 Cryan   A-4377 Cryan (pending intro and referral)	Establishes in DOE a four-year Community Service Phase Two Pilot Enhancement Program.   Extends pilot program in DOE to address State’s shortage of mathematics and science teachers by 12 months.
